GROUP OR PRIVATE

Two ways onto the floor

Most students end up doing both. Here is how to choose where to start.

GROUP CLASSES

A room full of former beginners

I

Sixty minutes, one dance at a time — the waltz, foxtrot, cha cha, rumba, swing and salsa people actually dance at weddings and parties. We rotate partners, so nobody sits out and nobody needs to bring anyone.

Beginner Social Adult — Thursday, 7:30 – 8:30 PM. Start here if you’re new.

Advanced Adult — Monday, 6:00 – 7:00 PM, for students with the basics and a few dances under their belt.

$20

PER PERSON · BEGINNER GROUP

PRIVATE LESSONS

Forty-five minutes, just you

II

One-on-one with your instructor, by appointment any day of the week. The fastest way to learn, and the only way to prepare for anything with a date on it — a wedding, a showcase, a competition.

Single lesson $100 — try it once, no commitment.

Packages of 4, 5 or 10 lessons bring it down to $70–$90 per lesson.

Not sure? Want a fun evening and a few dances you can use — start with the Beginner Social Adult group. Have a goal, or want to move fast — book a private trial lesson. Either way, you’ll be dancing within ten minutes of walking in.

PRO-AM COMPETITION

Back on the floor
with a professional partner

Some of our favourite students danced years ago, stopped for careers and families, and want it back: the gown, the floor, the number on his back, the heat sheet.

Pro-Am is how that happens. You compete with a professional partner — your instructor — at regional and national events, in the style and level that fits where you are now. Our instructors partner students on the competition floor; that is part of what they do here.

It works like this: private lessons build the routines, your teacher is your partner on the day, and we walk you through entries, costs and the calendar. You handle the sequins. Whether it has been five years or thirty, and whether the goal is one local competition or a national final, we have walked this path with many dancers before you.

The studio’s founder, Aleksandra Barsukov, is a certified national adjudicator who judges at competitions across the country. Few studios can tell you what the judges are actually looking for — from the judge’s chair.

FIRST-TIMERS

Nobody is born
knowing the cha cha

Half our adult students walked in alone. Most of them were sure they had no rhythm. All of them were dancing something recognisable before their first lesson ended — that is what forty-five minutes with a good teacher does.

Here is what a first lesson looks like: we ask what brings you in, we get you moving to music within ten minutes, and we finish with a dance you could do at a wedding next weekend. No mirrors you have to face, no audience, no test.

Then there are the reasons to keep coming: practice parties, holiday socials and showcases through the year, and real competitions when — if — you want the big floor. Dancing doesn’t check your birth year. Our floor has five-year-olds and retirees on it, often in the same evening.
